Jonathan Swift was the greatest of English satirists and prose writers of the eighteenth century. He criticized humanity through his writings, aiming to cure the ills of his age through humor. Born in Dublin to an English family, he wrote satires like "The Battle of Books" and "A Tale of a Tub". Swift was also involved in politics, writing pamphlets in defense of the Whigs and criticizing England's colonial policy in Ireland. His masterpiece "Gulliver's Travels" made a great impact. Despite facing personal tragedies and health issues, Swift continued to contribute to literature until his death.
